Cathérine Hug
Cathérine Hug graduated in art history, computer science and media science from the University of Zurich. From 2008 to 2013 she was a curator at the Kunsthalle Wien, responsible for exhibitions including 1989. End of History or Beginning of the Future?(2009) with Gerald Matt. Since 2013 she has been at the Kunsthaus Zürich, where she has curated exhibitions including Europe. The Future of History (2015) with Robert Menasse, Francis Picabia (2016) with Anne Umland in collaboration with MoMA New York, Oskar Kokoschka (2018/19) with Heike Eipeldauer in collaboration with the Leopold Museum Vienna, and most recently, thematic exhibitions on art and medicine (2022), time (2023) and, together with Sandra Gianfreda, Apropos Hodler: Current Perspectives on an Icon (2024). In 2025 she co-curated retrospectives devoted to Suzanne Duchamp curated with Talia Kwartler, Lygia Clark co-curated with Irina Grun and Maike Steinkamp from the Neue Nationalgalerie, Berlin and most recently Kerry James Marshall: Histories that opened in February 2026, co-curated with Mark Godfrey in cooperation with the Royal Academy (London) and MAM (Paris). She is currently preparing with Jo Widoff in cooperation with the Moderna Museet in Stockholm a retrospective devoted to Claes Oldenburg. Over the past 15 years Hug has become a leading expert of Dada. Hug has been a member of the University of St. Gallen Art Committee since 2017.
