Ioana Ciocan

Art Safari

Ioana Ciocan – CEO of Art Safari; Commissioner for Romania’s participation in the International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia; Eisenhower Fellow, 2023 Eastern Europe Program.

Based in Bucharest, she is Vice President of the Union of Visual Artists of Romania, a member of the Scientific Council of the National Cotroceni Museum, and part of the Committee for the establishment and organization of the Museum of the Horrors of Communism. Between 2015 and 2016, she was part of the Curatorium team that developed the Bucharest 2021 – European Capital of Culture bid.

Ioana Ciocan has lectured at numerous conferences on public art and curatorial practice. She has also initiated and coordinated several public art programs, including Keep the Change by Lea Rasovszky (London, August 2016; Leicester, September 2015), Proiect 1990 (Free Press Square, Bucharest, January 2010 – April 2014), SPAM (Carol I Park, Bucharest, October 2012 – October 2014), and Sculpture en plein air at Aiurart (2012–2013).

In 2021, she was awarded the Cultural Merit Medal, Class III, Category C – “Fine Arts,” by the President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis.
